Day 3 – Texas and Oklahoma

 Day 3 – 5/15/2021 – Texas and Oklahoma

Traveling through Texas always takes us most of the day and today was no exception.  We are planning on stopping in Lawton, OK for the night and visiting my Nephew and his family.  He is in the Army and stationed at Fort Sill.  So today is another travel day.

We leave Opelousas, Louisiana at around 7:00am and heading north on I-49.  We are on the road with little traffic and hope that it stays that way for awhile.  The area we travel is very flat with many fields of sugar cane.

Along the highway are a number of manmade square water ponds that do not look very deep.  They appear to grow something, but we cannot figure out what that might be.  There was a boat in one of the ponds we passed, which had a couple of people in them and what looked like cages.  We figured they are raising shrimp, crabs, or scallops, but not sure what.  Anyway, we did not get a picture.

Passing around Shreveport on LA-3132 we are on I-20 and not too long after we are entering Teas.  Shortly after entering Texas though, the traffic stops.  We stop-and-go for a couple of miles and decide to exit and take a parallel road up several exits.  Well, we are not the only ones thinking the same thing, but we are moving.  We get to where the next I-20 exit is located, the highway is blocked, and all traffic diverted to the same road we are driving.  After about a two-hour delay, we are finally back on I-20 and moving normally.

Moving the rest of the way through Texas is without issues, until we come to the Dallas area.  Traffic once again is congested and it is a Saturday!

Finally, past the Dallas area we are once again moving normally and see a number of ranches some with and some without barns, like this one.

We finally reach our next hotel in Lawton, Oklahoma.  My Nephew and his family live here are we plan on stopping by for a visit.   And I might add we had a great visit and BBQ.

Tomorrow we are heading to Clinton, OK for a stop at the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum.
