Day 1 – Travel day

Bob and Carmen’s 2021 USA Road Trip Blog

Day 1 – 5/13/2017 – Travel day

Now that covid-19 is mostly under control and with our vaccine shots taken care of, Carmen and I are off on the road trip we had planned to take in 2019 and then again in 2020.  This time our road trip will take us to Louisiana, Colorado and Utah and a couple other destinations along the way.  As always, you can see this travel blog “Bob and Carmen’s 2021 USA Road Trip” along with our other travel blogs by going to: https://www.blogger.com/profile/02504216977029606085  which has all of our travel blogs.  Later if you do not want to find it in the list of our travel blogs, you can get there directly using this URL in the address line:  https://bobandcarmens2021usaroadtrip.blogspot.com/

Our trip will, for the most part, follow the trail below.  First we’ll head north on I-95 then 528 west to I-75 north and finally I-10 west, which then matches the entry in the bottom right side of the map.  Our first places to visit are a couple of the historic plantations located along the Mississippi River just west of New Orleans.  Then we plan on stopping in Lawton, Oklahoma to visit relatives and Clinton, OK to visit the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum before continuing to the rest of our trip.

Anyway we have about 25-30 places we have plan on visiting.
Our biggest hope is that the snow will have cleared from the scenic road through Rocky Mountain National Park and any other place we might visit.  We have had this park on our list twice before, but had to cancel due to snow, so our fingers are crossed.

It is around 7:00 AM when we start out from Sebastian, Florida.  Other then gas we will not stop until we are in Slidell, Louisiana.

Today we will travel about 700 miles, so our departure time is around 7:00am after a quick stop at Dunkin Donuts for coffee and donuts.  Most of the trip today was uneventful, with just a little rain along the way.

While we were getting gas in Louisiana, a McLaren 720S parked right behind us to also get gas.  I was too excited to see the car and a beautiful car it is, that I forgot to take a picture.  HA!  Oh well, such as it is.

As we approached our exit to Slidell and our hotel for the night, a tractor-trailers rear tire blew.  I mean it exploded, throwing tire shrapnel all over.  I managed to dodge a couple of large chunks sparing my car and glad that I had not started to pass on the right for the exit.  It sounded like a shotgun going off!  BLAMMM!  A little excitement for the end of the day doesn’t hurt, as long as it doesn’t physically hurt you.

Tomorrow we are heading to a couple of plantations.  At last look, two of the three we planned to visit are open and hope they still are when we get there.  We will visit on Friday and feel that if open only on the weekends, they should open on Friday.

Until tomorrow then.
